The Magic Garden Travel Diaries

Syros

A long waited and well deserved vacation.

Nothing luxurious, just 2 girlfriends going to a Greek island to spend a week relaxing and enjoying the Greek sun and blue waters.

Our trip started on a Sunday evening leaving the port of Piraeus and heading to Syros, an island whose capital is the the capital of Cyclades..an island that i completely fell in love with – actually to be honest, i fell in love with Ano Syros.

Ano Syros

Ano Syros was built by the Venetians and maintains a medieval atmosphere. A town full of hundreds of steps between narrow streets and houses with colored doors lead to the top of the town. The town is not accessible by car which makes it even more unique. This is where I had the most mouthwatering traditional Greek loukoumades ever! yum yum!!

We visited magnificent beaches with clear waters and silver sand. We completely relaxed and felt at peace on that island. The views are spectacular and at night they left you wondering beneath the starry sky.

Greek food

We had traditional dishes and i must say I was wowed by this absolutely amazing Greek restaurant that managed to satisfy our hunger to the maximum! Giosifaki is a traditional tavern (also known as Kollitiri) and was started as a family affair some years ago, in 1958. The passion of the recipes was transferred by the grandfather Joseph and Francesca to their son George and later to their grandson Joseph. Today the new owner and Chef Raphael, completely respects the tradition of the recipes and flavors that he received from the previous generations. He keeps having an authentic Greek  cuisine by using the purest ingredients. He tries to adapt the tradition with the needs of the era and he offers abundantly plentiful dishes leaving every visitor completely satisfied.

Giosifaki is in Vari town, right on the water with stunning views of the bay, offering huge portions that can satisfy the hungriest person. My personal favorite is the shrimp pasta and the sea food risotto.

The town of Ermoupoli was very traditional with all those little unique shops and bars where we enjoyed tasty cocktails.

It was just amazing. I loved that trip and it was the first time after many years that i really felt i was vacationing. I will definitely go back and visit my favorite places on the island, already planning on it πŸ™‚
