Beauty Through The Looking Glass

The benefits of rose water

Rose water is an amazing natural ingredient and is one of the first cosmetic products women used for thousands of years (Even cleopatra used it herself!). It is natural and since it is coming from rose petals it has a lot of minerals and vitamins.

To name a few

Vitamin A:

Vitamin A supports cell renewal and is important for your skin when you want a clearer, more even complexion.

Vitamin B3 (niacin):

Vitamin B3 is usually ingested in your diet to promote glowing skin and calm any irritation.

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C promotes collagen production, which keeps your skin elastic, slows down ageing and helps with healing wounds.

Vitamin D:

Vitamin D helps calcium absorption and supports general health when absorbed by the skin.

Vitamin E:

Vitamin E is great for protecting your face from air pollution, but it can also encourage blood circulation for hair growth and general skin health.

The benefits that stand out the most:

  • Calms excess oil production. Rose water is great for all skin types, but those who have to deal with oiliness will have smoother and more matte skin with regular use
  • Maintains the pH of your skin. Having skin that is too alkaline or too acidic is going to cause all sorts of issues, such as struggling to fight off infections, contributing to acne and faster ageing.
  • Works as a hydrating toner. Rose water moisturises your skin, whilst tightening your pores making it perfect for softer skin or anyone who struggles with enlarged pores.
  • Anti-inflammatory. Getting rid of inflammation helps in reducing the redness of irritated skin due to acne.
  • Gets rid of acne. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties work quickly together to soothe any breakouts and fight them off, which also prevents acne scars by not letting the breakout become a problem.
  • The antibacterial properties aids in healing scars, cuts and wounds.
  • It also has antioxidant properties which help in strengthening skin cells and regenerating skin tissues.
  • It can treat mild scalp inflammations and get rid of dandruff. It also works wonders as a natural conditioner and revitalizes hair growth. The nourishing and moisturizing properties of rose water enhance the quality of hair.
  • It acts as Facial Cleanser on all skin types.
  • The soothing fragrance and aroma of rose water makes you feel refreshed, relaxed and enhances your mood after a long day.

Rose water can be used in a variety of ways:

  • as a toner
  • in any face pack
  • mixed with massage during home facial
  • Tightens pores
  • reduces blemishes
  • as a makeup fixer
  • soothes eye if used as a eye drop
  • if mixed with aloe vera gel, can be used as an under eye gel

DIY your very own rose water

  • 2 glasses of distilled water (or enough to cover the rose petals)
  • Rose petals of 10 roses
  • 3 drops of rose essential oil
  • 1 vitamin E capsule ( for better product preservation, optional)

Instructions:

Wash the rose petals and then put them in the water. Let the water simmer on low heat until the petals have lost all their color. Then remove it from the fire. Strain the liquid, discard the petals and you let it cool. Once it cools down, you mix the vitamin E capsule and the essential oil and stir. Keep it in a glass container and store it in the fridge.
